Amazing Deal at Banana Republic

Hello All.
I woke up to a fantastic email. I will cut to the chase, Banana Republic is having a 40% off sale off of all their handbags and jewelry, in stores only! That's a HUGE sale!

I'm not normally a fan of BR bags, I used to be when they had those beautiful, thick, leather bags. But lately it's been a bit eh. However, that doesn't preclude me from picking a few. Here are some of my favs.

This Is Halloween

As a babe of nine, an astonished child
learned her cousin's favorite show
was not a princess story or something mild,
but "The Nightmare Before Christmas," and, lo!

it proved her theory - her relative was,
without doubt, a most curious female -
liked Fantasia, Alice, Wizard of Oz,
the Headless Horseman, and other dark tales.

Now the babe has grown, understands the case,
that her cousin was precocious, not strange;
twisted, creepy, she has learned to embrace,
her tastes have evolved, she enjoys the change.

So though the first two are from a Christmas thing,
enjoy these songs perfect for Halloween.

This Is Halloween.

Shiba Inu Puppy Cam

SQUEEEEEEEALLLLL!!! They're so furry and fat and I LOVE THEM. This is a LIVE CAM. REAL-TIME. As in HAPPENING RIGHT NOW!!!

I can't stop cooing and aww-ing at my screen now. Look how FAT AND CUTE THEY ARE! I love them I love them I love them.

The greatest live feed you will ever see.

Jeans Jeans Jeans

I love jeans. I wear them everyday. But, speaking of buts, I'm really sensitive to how they look on me, specifically, my butts and thighs. I want my jeans to highlight and accentuate my derrier and I absolutely hate hate HATE when i see crinkle around the thigh. Obviously, sometimes these things are unavoidable, and my jeans, after time, end up doing it anyway. Especially when you are a student and you are poor and you don't really have much of a choice.

In comes the solution, Henry Lehr in Nolita. It is a small boutique filled from ceiling to floor in jeans and other apparel, and very special sales assistants who give you personal attention, honest answers, lots of suggestions and plenty of alternatives. You walk out feeling like you got exactly what you wanted--your ass looks great, your thighs are tight, and you are ready to rock n' roll.

Book of the Day: The Westing Game

When I was in 5th grade, this was one of my favorite books - I checked it out at least every other week from the public library simply because I loved the twists and turns and cleverness woven into the story.

A wealthy man named Sam Westing dies, and has 16 improbable heirs from all ages, races, classes, and backgrounds competing to solve the mystery of who killed Sam Westing in order to get his fortune. There's a doctor, a 60-something delivery boy, a black judge, a Chinese restaurant owner, a Jew, some Greeks, a Polish-American, a secretary, a dressmaker, a birdwatcher, a track star, and a bunch of other awesome characters.

I know it's a kid's book, but trust me when I say it's a fun ride, and if you've never read it, you're missing out.

Other books by Ellen Raskin that I loved: The Tattooed Potato and Other Clues and The Mysterious Disappearance of Leon (I Mean Noel). Good stuff.

Buy it on Amazon for $6.99.

Lorick Sping 09

Eleanor Waldorf is lucky to have Lorick as the real designer behind her brand. Or is it the other way around?

Either way, I love these pictures.

Jenna Lyons Home Decor

One of the highlights of my month is receiving my absolutely favorite magazine in the mail, Domino Magazine. Domino Mag is an interior decorating spin off of Lucky magazine that launched about 3 years ago or so. It contains fabulous decorating tips, ideas, and where to get what...but best of all, it features famous ppl's houses! Usually the features are of other designers, but sometimes they have famous actors/actresses as well. You can learn a lot about a person by how they decorate their house.

This month the feature was on Jenna Lyons', Creative Director of J. Crew! I love her brooklyn brown stone, and the black hardwood floors, and the bright furniture, and and and..sigh. I love it all. It's like...if J. Crew became a brownstone...

Take a tour of her house by clicking Here.

The Pervert's Guide to Etsy

Because S and I love Etsy, and because S has been posting some cool DIY crafty stuff, and because it's almost Halloween, I thought this would be appropriate.

Read the whole thing, it's pretty dang funny.

Don Draper's Guide to Picking Up Women

I'm willing to bet good money that very few people watch Mad Men, which is too bad because there are hot chicks, hot guys, lots of scandals. If you've never heard of it, it centers around an Ad agency in the 1960s. The main character? A sexy sexy man who has dirty rotten affairs, is kind of a jerk, and has a shady past. His name is Don Draper.

Isn't Jon Hamm dreamy? Good job, SNL.

Aren't you glad I'm procrastinating doing my paper by posting all these videos?

OMG New Half Blood Prince Teaser!

Next July can't come fast enough. For this Harry Potter movie OR for the END OF LAW SCHOOL.

BoA Kwon - Eat You Up

Since I've been seeing this everywhere over the last week, I guess it means it's really becoming "news."

Big Asian popstar, 21 years old, and trying to break into the American music market. There's also supposedly going to be a remix of this song coming up ft. Flo Rida! Get ready to get LOW, cuz sista has got some MOVES.

Eat You Up - Asian Version

US Version (Why is the US Version sexed up so much - yet suck?)

I like her clothes in the Asian version so much better. And the dancing. And the backup dancers. And the special effects. WTF, US version? Why must you be so boring?!

Oh, and you can buy the song on iTunes.

Kate Moss for TOPSHOP - Christmas Collection

Gearing up to spend a lot of money (and possibly break my budget...) on Tuesday, Oct. 28, when the new Kate Moss for Topshop collection is available to buy online. Seriously, I want, like, all of it. And not just because I want practically anything that Kate wears.

I'm still sad that I never got to see her while working at David Yurman HQ. ALSO sad that the day after my last day, Ashley Olsen was there. Apparently, I love cracked out-skinny blonde multimillionaires.

30 Rock Season Premiere

Hulu is amazing and somehow finagled a deal (and yes, that is how you spell finagled) with NBC to have the season premiere of 30 Rock posted online a full week before it's supposed to air on tv.

I know that of all my friends, I am one of the few who really loves this show, but come on. After all that Tina Fey has done for this country, most notably impersonating Sarah Palin, I think you should give it a chance.

Full episodes are availabe at Hulu.

Pretty Cool Video Mashup

It was mutually agreed at the lunch table just now that Jason Mraz is amazing, which is why this video gets some extra points.

Jason Mraz - I'm Yours
Howie Day - Collide
Five For Fighting - Superman
Angela Ammons - Always Getting Over You
Boyzone - All That I Need
3 Doors Down - Here Without You

Kinda hate myself for doing this...

But I bought something bad. Bad bad news. Ok here are my justifications. Yes, I have made a few purchases as of late...but, all things which I have been contemplating for quite some time, and for the record, I do not buy clothes very often. My obsessions/addictions happen to be handbags and shoes, both of which, yes, I have purchased recently. Shut up. But clothes, I mean...even the boyfriend suggested that I go shopping, something which he NEVER does. If that's not an alarm I don't know what is. PLUS, T and I set up a budget system, and I am still below the budget, as I have returned a many things. I still have a good bunch to swallow, although...this one purchase might have put me right at its limit.
A leather hooded jacket to satisfy my motorcycle craze. What do you think???

Self Healing

For those of you crafties out there, make sure you get a self healing pad to do all your cutting with a blade. These are great because I can cut out anything with my blade, and I don't have to worry about making creases on my pad because 2 seconds later, voila! It's gone and like brand new. You can pick one up at your local Japanese gift shops for $2. Don't go buying them at staples.

Along the Dotted Line~!

So in my procrastinating frenzy, I decided, suddenly and with tremendous urgency, that I absolutely needed gift tags, envelopes labeled "important documents", and nameplates for books. I know what you're thinking...you do too! Here to satisfy all your needs, is this beautiful cite, ready to rescue you from all of your arts and crafts woes.

A very good friend of mine is an extremely talented graphic designer, and when she left New York (and me) to live in good ole San Francisco, she gave me a box of high quality paper, which contained random samples. So! I printed these out on very heavy stock paper:

Perfect for all your gift giving needs! Now Christmas won't be all unorganized and messy with sharpies or faint pen marks identifying each gift! One option is to print them out on sticky paper and stick each label onto the gift, but I prefer punching little holes and tying little ribbons on them. To DL the pdf, click here.

Next, I downloaded nameplates for books! You can cut out each nameplate and glue/stick them onto the cover of your books just in case you lend them out and forget who you lent them out to (like I do all the time). When I was younger, I established an old school library system (index cards with names and return dates with little folders) but that died since the only ppl I was lending out books to were my bear and Strawberry Short Cakes.
Click Here to DL the pdf.

The final one is an envelope cut out, kinda plain and simple. My sister did not understand what this was for, even after countless explanations. I can't help her. But I thought it'd be perfect when sending photos!
Click here to DL the pdf.

There are so many more, but I am now feeling the palpitations in my heart, telling me to write my paper with each beat. Happy crafting!

Best Wedding Toast EVER

I just ran across this...Amy is one lucky girl! Please watch til the end..and warning: you may cry. Like I did. Like a baby. Still.

Best Wedding Toast Ever!!!! (Amy's Song) - The funniest home videos are here

Ack!

While T is definitely right...sometimes you really need to shell out the cash for comfort, I don't think I can really afford to buy those beautiful cole haan shoes, especially to wear while waitressing. BUT if you can afford them, I'd say go nuts. My friend had a pair of the black patent pointy toe pumps with Nike Air, and she said she felt like she could go run in them and it would be fine. She wore them for an event that we had, which lasted about 8 hours, and she didn't even feel the pain! Solution? Yes!

For moi...I need a cheaper option. A friend and I recently purchased these mossimo shoes at Target, and so far, they feel like they'd be comfortable. Hard to tell since I haven't taken it out for a test drive beyond my living room, but tonight while I serve, it will be tried and tested. Will let you know the results!

For now:
$20 Mossimo Verla Shoes. They aren't so cute in the picture, but TRUST me. They are so so SO cute in real life!

Oh and I am liking these wedges for work:

My dress at work is a poo colored brown...so these may help make it a little glitzier. $49 at Steve Madden WITH

Comfortable Heels

Carma Air Almond, 298

I was going to try and find some more options for you ladies, but the fact of the matter is, comfort is expensive. Anything I find is going to be upwards of $200, and I know people hate paying that much for shoes. From someone who HATES wearing heels, I'll tell you what I do.

1. Platforms. The thicker heel and sole makes you look like you're wearing killer shoes...but the difference in elevation between your actual heel and sole is not that much.

2. Cushy soles. I like shoes with comfortable insoles, so I base my shoe selection a lot of the time on what the insole looks like. If there's a pair I LOVE and NEED but they look not so comfy, I buy gel pads, which help, but aren't the best.

3. Wedges. Self-explanatory, I think. They're just easier on your feet! And if you get some super strappy ones, they'll look super sexy instead of just super clunky.

4. SPEND. One big lesson I'm learning in life is that if you can't take the pain, then shell out the cash monies for quality. I made the mistake once of trying on a pair of Gucci pumps...and to this day my feet can't stop thinking about them. They were unbelievable. When people talk about a "good shoe experience" converting people to shoe lovers, that's what they mean. So spend the money on a good pair of shoes and save elsewhere. It'll be worth it in the long run. Or it'll get you addicted to amazing shoes and spiral you into a black hole of debt.

Watch yourself.

And of course, I couldn't end this without posting a COUPON!

Sip and Save!

Hello all...looks like we are back on air and better than ever! T and I predict that as we get closer and closer to final exams, and probably also as the weather gets colder and colder...we will be blogging more and more. I would put a chart or graph of my predictions, but I need to review a paper. So must post quickly!
Anyway...it's a sure sign that fall has come full swing and that winter is only a stone's throw away when Barnes and Noble comes out with their Toasted Marshmallow Cappuccino! Yum...just the thought of it makes me happy. And now is your chance to sample a sip! Just click, print and bring the coupon to your local Barnes and Noble. Happy Tasting! Oh and before I forget,

Yay! Sometimes economic crisis are beneficial--especially when we get coupons.

Kristen Wiig Cracks Me Up

TVSquad did a top 10 Kristen Wiig moments on SNL, and from those, I've picked three that I really enjoyed. Keep in mind I watched these after just waking up, so there's a slight chance that they're not as funny as I think. But whatever.

ViVi Magazine

Some scans from my favorite Asian magazine for the month of November. It's pretty obvious from these that I'm really into black / white / grey, plaid, high-waistedness, hats, and (faux) fur vests now.
